3D SECURE
When shopping online, your credit/debit card information can be stolen by anyone if it falls into the wrong hands. To enable you to shop securely, Visa and MasterCard have developed Verified by Visa® and MasterCard® SecureCode™ secure online shopping solutions. Verified by Visa® and MasterCard® SecureCode™ are services that allow you to shop securely online by entering a password.
During online shopping transactions, the credit card owner’s personal password is verified, preventing unauthorized use of the card on 3D Secure compliant shopping sites.
In this way, the cardholder rests assured that their card cannot be used without their consent, and the virtual shopping site confirms that the credit card owner is the person making the purchase.
Protection Provided to Cardholders: When shopping online, 3D Secure (Verified by Visa®/SecureCode™) protects your existing card information.
Protection: 3D Secure protects your existing card information with your personal password and key security sentence that you determine.
Convenience: No one else can shop online with your card. Your 3D Secure password is only known to you.
Easy Registration: Registering for the system is very easy online.
Ease of Use: Once registered, 3D Secure is incredibly easy to use. All you have to do is enter your password during checkout.
3D Secure Usage: Cardholder registration processes may vary. During registration, you will need to answer a few security questions and uniquely define the following:
- Personal Assurance Message (PAM)
- When shopping online, your PAM will appear on the screen during checkout. This message is only known to you and the bank that sent you your card. The message appearing on the screen indicates that you are securely connected to the website of the bank that sent you the card.
When creating your password, be careful not to write a password that is easy to guess. For example, do not use your last name, address, or date of birth.
You must register separately for all cards you own. You do not need to re-register if your card expires and you get a new one.
You can complete the registration process by clicking on the Visa® or MasterCard® website, depending on which card you have, and check if your bank is covered by 3D Secure.
